The Story of Temple Drake

Dir. Stephen Roberts (1933). Paramount’s pre-Code shocker may not be as relentlessly lurid as Sanctuary, the arty William Faulkner potboiler on which it’s based, but this tale of a debauched Southern belle remains one raunchy movie—not least because the delicate and mischievous Miriam Hopkins has the title role.
