GIVE CRANKS

Race to feed the homeless

At first glance, Cranksgiving 12 sounds like a get-together for ungrateful bastards who are too busy texting to give thanks for anything. But really, Cranksgiving is quite the opposite. Every year, a week before Thanksgiving, the New York Bike Messenger Foundation gathers serious cyclists (more than 120 entered last year) for a race around the city to designated grocery stores to purchase all the items on the contest’s grocery list. Of course, if you don’t want to race, you can also do the ride at a more leisurely pace because, at the end of the day, everyone is a winner (awww . . . ). Bring a bag, some cash, and a good bike lock.
