Sure to give any shoe lover nightmares, Hans Christian Andersen's The Red Shoes tells the story of a vain girl whose magical red shoes force her to dance constantly until she has no choice but to have her feet cut off (ah, they really donât make childrenâs stories like they used to). Believing this to be a morality tale for girls who dare to follow their passions, director Emma Rice brings a feminist twist to the tale, giving the girl a chance to battle for survival. The performance is presented by British company Kneehigh Theatre, whose acclaimed production of Brief Encounter, which ran last year at St. Annâs Warehouse, is now at Studio 54 on Broadway.
