Be a giant for a day
Walk into the new Charles LeDray mid-career retrospective titled workworkworkworkworkand you might just think you stumbled onto the set for Gulliver’s Travels. Here you play the friendly giant, leaning in to get a closer look at LeDray’s minuscule hats, re-created “secondhand” clothes perfect for the Fantastic Mr. Fox (or even tinier outfits fit for a mouse), and thousands of ceramics and figurines you could put in your pocket (but don’t do that). Yes, the Lilliputian exhibit may seem sweet, but it’s hardly innocent: The New York–based sculptor, who reportedly takes great pains to create every piece by hand himself, constructs his mini masterpieces with sewn cloth, glazed ceramics, and—gulp—human bone.
