Provided you’re a New Yorker of the indie-rocking persuasion, the holidays just weren’t the holidays last year thanks to Yo La Tengo’s decision to sit out their regular Eight Nights of Hanukkah residence at Maxwell’s. This year, though, the Hoboken veterans are back, and though all eight gigs are already sold out (proceeds from each go to a different charity), you’d do well to pull your most reliable strings to get in: Special musical guests are virtually guaranteed, as are surprise opening acts, zany comic interludes, and plenty of obscure-ass covers only a record-store clerk could identify.
