Last fall’s inaugural Brooklyn Comics and Graphics Festival transcended freezing rain and a steamy Williamsburg church basement to deliver a vibrant mixture of hot art chat and ruthlessly curated dealer tables. On hand was everything from comics’ hippest micropresses to bargain vintage finds (such as the "Earthlore" and "MerlinRealm 3D" issue—ones I snagged for about four bits each). Organized once again by a fine local comics store (Desert Island), publisher (PictureBox), and scholar (Bill Kartalopoulos), this year’s fest takes place in a roomier religious institution, with even more stars of the line and panel. Lynda Barry and Charles Burns converse at 1; Evan Dorkin and Paul Pope meet Dondi creator Irwin Hasen at 4; and Bill Griffith, Johnny Ryan, and Mark Newgarden contemplate the semiotics of Ernie Bushmiller’s iconic Nancy at 6.
