Six years after their last drawling spectacle, Pressure Chief, Cakereturn with a full new disc they produced and engineered in their solar-powered electric studio in Sacramento, California (*cough* hippies *cough*). Showroom of Compassion is slated for a January 11 release on their Upbeat Records; first single "Sick of You" indicates that all of Cake’s vintage accoutrements have survived the journey intact. It's got singer John McCrea’s drolly spoken couplets, sharp guitar riffs, jauntily precise pace. Look for this to soundtrack the commercial to the first solar-powered iPod nano.
