King Crimson's leader-guitarist conceived Soundscapesin the mid-90's as a digital update of Frippertronics, which used interconnected tape recorders to create looping and reverberant, er, soundscapes. Fripp has used the style--with its processed arrays of digital delay--to evoke apocalyptic visions of heaven and hell, along with portions of the Catholic mass. One imagines him contemplating visions of Mammon during these four gratis Soundscapeperformances held amid the fortresses of finance.
