Crooked Fingers

Eight years ago, folkie indie rockers Crooked Fingers released an EP, Reservoir Songs, on Merge Records; it contained touching, imaginative covers of songs by Springsteen and Neil Diamond, as well as a banjo-driven take on Prince's "When You Were Mine." Through it all, frontman Eric Bachmann, formerly with Archers of Loaf, sang each song with gruff, Tom Waits-inspired conviction. This year, Bachmann & Co. released a sequel, including their takes on songs by Merle Haggard, Thin Lizzy, and the Kinks. Most impressive is that the band did it themselves through Kickstarter. With Cotton Jones.
