It wouldn’t be the Solstice without Justin Bond. Ever since he delighted us with his surrealist Karen Carpenter Christmas pageant a few years back, we’ve come to rely on “Mx Bond” to give us a thrilling and strange holiday experience amid the countless Nutcrackerssweeping New York this time of year. For Christmas Spells, the Dorothy Zbornak–voiced kabarettist attempts a little more narrative than usual by adapting Kate Bornstein’s short story, Dixie Belle: The Further Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Set in New Orleans during the Civil War, the plot finds Mark Twain’s famed character hustling in a tranny brothel on Christmas Eve. It’s a holiday tale to warm any heart.
