DINNER INVITATION

Doug Hughes directs Matthew Lopez's The Whipping Man

At the Passover seder, one asks, “Why is this night different from all other nights?” That won’t be difficult to answer at Matthew Lopez’s singular play, staged by MTC. It concerns a Jewish confederate soldier who returns from the Civil War to prepare a seder with two of his former slaves. Director Doug Hughes hides the matzoh.
