The storefront at the corner of Clifton Place and Grand Avenue in Clinton Hill has been vacant for some time now, but residents rejoiced during Christmas week when the place opened its doors to the public — if only temporarily. The space, when it debuts officially in about six weeks’ time, will house a retail space selling new and vintage housewares, as well as a cafe area.
“[We’ll serve] coffee and sandwiches,” says owner Marion Hazlewood. “It will be a place for people in the neighborhood to come and relax.”
The welcome has already been very warm, she adds. With Choice Market around corner, locals are not hurting for great sandwiches, but scoring a seat at the lone communal table is a challenge. Urban Vintage is sure to attract those who prefer not to eat (and shop) and run.
