Two contortionists take the stage at (le) poisson rouge tonight—both the vocal and physical kind. First, there’s Joey Arias, the Cirque du Soleil drag star, in a reprise of his knockout jazz show last fall. Arias contorts his pipes into a slinky, Billie Holiday purr, all while managing to keep breathing in the tightest corset we’ve ever seen. Then there’s Meow Meow, the Australian vamp who ties herself in knots, splaying her limbs among the male contingent of the audience while belting standards such as “Surabaya Johnny.” Either of these two cabaret luminaries would make your month.
