Sure, the band spends as much time in Brooklyn as in Burkina Faso's Ougadougou, and includes Gyorgy Ligeti's son and (sometimes) half of Toscaalongside its West African members. But the name makes a point: The band takes traditional Mossi music and instruments and charges them with electronica and its technologies. Their 2010 Paspanga Burkina Electric proved the formula works, thanks in large part to singer Mai Lingani.
