Alphabet Lounge Big Band
They started in the East Village, moved to Park Slope, and now have found a home in Gowanus. The saxophonist's feisty outfit has plenty of charts to follow, but they always brings spontaneous ideas to the table. Such notions have a way of taking a madcap slant, or at least offering a wry perspective--he is the heart of the Jazz Passengers, after all. Non-jazzers always dig cofounder Roy Nathanson's entertaining quips as much as they do the group's elaborate romps. Pianist/cofounder Deidre Rodman makes for a formidable straw-boss, and a handful of singers are on board tonight as well.
