Randy Weston graces the stage he knows well
Following Ms. Worden’s evening of ultimate realization (see Thursday), here’s another terrific Lincoln Center marquee: Randy Weston’s African Rhythms at chic Dizzy’s Room, whose recent live release, The Storyteller, was recorded in the very same room. Weston’s ensemble (which generally veers between quintet and sextet) is inspired in its dance of African beat and modern jazz; prolific pianist Weston steers at their helm with a playful, sleek intelligence. He clearly holds a candle for this room; hear his outfit work a wonder or two in return.
