At the very least, Akron/Familyare poised now for all sorts of “explosive” puns, but you should expect more (from the NY/Portland psych-rockers, not from us). Their new album, S/T II: The Cosmic Birth and Journey of Shinju TNT, which landed last week, was written in a cabin built into the side of Mount Meakan, an active volcano in Hokkaido, Japan. It’s a freewheeling follow-up to 2009’s bucolic Set ’Em Wild, Set ’Em Free, and boasts the kind of near-lurid sonic bombast the group can creep to so easily. Boom! With Delicate Steve.
