It's not exactly girls against boys, but guitarist Mary Halvorson and accordionist Andrea Parkins often seem to find themselves at productive musical odds with scrappy drummer Ches Smith and saxophonist Tony Malaby on the quartet's excellent debut, Finally Out of My Hands. Subtle grooves simmer underneath the clanging of disparate sensibilities, and there's a brooding classical feel to compositions such as "One Long Minute (Before Another Slice of Pizza)." You won't leave hungry.
