Dir. Lionel Rogosin (1956). Lionel Rogosin’s classic skid row doc is a quintessential chunk of New York history and not just because the Third Avenue elevated is a harsh and haunting presence. Frequenting Bowery dives and flophouses, Rogosin used a hidden camera and some cannily staged scenes to dramatize a particular white working-class culture where desire under the el is mainly for a bottle of cheap muscatel.
Fridays-Sundays, 11 a.m. Starts: Feb. 25. Continues through Feb. 27, 2011
