Nicole Atkins is back
Due to a spate of now-typical music-biz troubles neatly detailed in a recent Timesprofile, Nicole Atkins has finally gotten around to releasing the follow-up to her excellent 2007 debut, Neptune City. The new one's called Mondo Amore, and though I'm less enamored of its fuzzy psych-soul settings than I was of Neptune's lush torch-song vibe, the album still showcases her often-thrilling vocals; somebody should arrange a duet between her and her old labelmate Adele (whose last name, incidentally, happens to be Adkins). Tonight, she's likely to focus on fresh stuff, but Maxwell's also represents home turf for this Jersey girl—maybe she'll toss in a Bruce cover or two.
