LADYSMITH RETURNS

Joseph Shabalala’s group continues to thrive

Male choral group Ladysmith Black Mambazo pride themselves on being a roving university, a group that travels around the globe to teach the culture and history of their native South Africa. Their loyal offerings of isicathamiya(the traditional music of the Zulu people) and mbube(regional a capella harmony) balance a famous pop adaptability; that’s them on Paul Simon’s Graceland. Over 50 years having passed since their formation, with as many completed studio recordings to boot, the emissaries still flourish in concert and in efforts of the charitable Ladysmith Black Mambazo Foundation.
