Talk about embracing one’s flaws—MOMA PS1 presents An Afternoon of Failure, where shortcomings are highlighted in both literary and musical form. The festivities are in honor of the release of the Review of Contemporary Fiction’s “Failure” issue. Online literary magazine Triple Canopy and Dalkey Archive Press host the day of misfortune and defeat, which will include “attempted readings” from the issue by Eileen Myles, Helen DeWitt, Sam Frank, Travis Jeppesen, and n+1’s Keith Gessen; a “botched tribute” to the classics of American literature by theater group Elevator Repair Service’s John Collins and Scott Shepherd; “mangled covers” of pop songs by US Girls; and an attempt to resurrect influential postmodern novelist William Gaddis, who once taught a college class titled “Literature of Failure.” Though success may smell sweet, failure never sounded so good.
