All Eternals Deck—the new album from John Darnielle’s long-running lit-folk outfit, the Mountain Goats—is every bit as excellent as dude’s given us reason to expect it to be. That said, “Age of Kings” is still shockingly pretty, probably the handsomest thing Darnielle’s issued to date—if only it were one of the tunes the Goats recorded with death-metal honcho Erik Rutan. (Among the Rutan-helmed cuts? “The Autopsy Garland.”) Anyway, you can expect Darnielle and his mates (including Superchunk drummer Jon Wurster) to play “Age of Kings” during this week’s sold-out three-night stand at the Bowery Ballroom. Prepare to swoon. With Megafaun.
