Sick of the same old Scrabble? 826NYC is changing the game with a strategic twist—cheating is not only allowed, but also highly encouraged. Before the fourth annual Scrabble for Cheaters Tournament, players must raise at least $200 to spend on a menu of “cheats,” such as “Invent a Word” and “Buy a Vowel.” And the more you cheat, the more money you’ll raise for 826NYC, a nonprofit organization founded by Dave Eggers and dedicated to helping students ages six to 18 develop creative and expository writing skills. Cheating will also help you crush the event’s celebrity contestants, with stiff competition coming from playwright Jonathan Marc Sherman, actor Peter Dinklage, and comedians John Oliver and John Hodgman.
