Cake

Cheeky-rock genre leaders Cake achieved a career high this year with the release of their sixth album, Showroom of Compassion, which debuted at No. 1. At the time, having sold only 44,000 copies, it was the lowest-selling No. 1 album since record-sales statisticians SoundScan started counting. (Singer/songwriter Amos Lee has since managed to beat that, getting a No. 1 in February by selling 40,000 units.) But this is a triumph in irony for a band like Cake, whose first single asked "How do you afford your rock 'n' roll lifestyle?"
