Brooklyn-based artist Melissa Murray creates work like a dream—literally. In her new solo exhibition, What the Birds Saw, the artist blends, almost seamlessly, visions of bright color, various shapes, and images of animals, all broken up in segments by way of drawings in graphite and sketches in colored pencil and gouache, then blended together through collage form, mixed-media paintings, and sculpture created from found objects. Murray states that her “work stems from a deep interest in psychoanalytical interpretation and the conscious and unconscious effects of human action.”
