The ‘Godfather of Grunge’ comes to Avery Fisher

Neil Young has been a hot ticket lately, for being nowhere near this side of the country: Carnegie Hall hosted a star-studded tribute to him in February, when Patti Smith, Aaron Neville, and the Roots paid alternately fond and scorching homage. (Find the Roots’ cover of “Down by the River” on YouTube. Now. Go.) But the Canadian firebrand’s ready to bring his original work this way, hence these two consecutive nights (starting Sunday) at Avery Fisher: Expect some cuts from last year’s Grammy-winning Le Noise, as well as special-guest support duties from Scottish singer-songwriter Bert Jansch. Young promises to go both electric and acoustic tonight, and Avery Fisher is an excellent hall to experience both.
