The Bronx River Greenway is a 23-mile-long multi-use path-in-progress (15 miles done, with eight to go) that will extend the full length of the river in Westchester County and the Bronx, incorporating residential areas, reclaiming neglected land, and restoring existing parks and even an abandoned concrete plant into a 633-acre park. The Bronx River Alliance and Bike the Bronx are sponsoring the Bronx River Ride to the Source, a unique opportunity to bike the Greenway 25 miles to the river’s source in the Kensico Reservation. Guides will provide commentary on the impact of humans on the Bronx River. If you only want to go one way—and 25 miles is a good ride—you can return via MetroNorth. Much of the route covers streets, so it’s recommended that riders have experience riding city streets (i.e., dodging potholes, taxis, and pedestrians).
