Cartoonist Sally Cruikshank has said it was the Donald Duck comic books she read as a child that subconsciously influenced her to create her own psychedelic world of duck characters in the ’70s, including the beloved Quasi, a groovy duck who dons white gloves, thick, nerdy glasses, and a red cape wherever he goes. Tonight at Just Ducky: The Films of Sally Cruikshank you can see Cruikshank’s most important hand-drawn works from the ’70s and ’80s, including “Quasi at the Quackadero,” which was listed in Jerry Beck’s The 50 Greatest Cartoons and features assistance from her then-boyfriend, underground cartoonist Kim Deitch. “I like to create anthropomorphic universes where anything can talk back to you, where any door can say hello,” she said in a 1980 interview.
