For the past year, performance artist Maria José Arjona (who you may have seen in Marina Abramovic's staring contest last year at MOMA), has been memorizing stories that were told to her via e-mail, Facebook, Skype, and in person from people all over the world. And now she's ready to share them with you in her work Tell Me a Story Because I Can't Sleep, which runs today and tomorrow as a part of the site-specific exhibit titled About Face, presented by No Longer Empty, which brings art to empty storefronts. The show is in conjunction with the Festival of Ideas for the New City, a major new collaborative initiative involving a slew of downtown organizations, from universities to arts institutions and community groups. For four days, starting May 4, the festival will serve as a platform for creative minds to explore ideas through three central programs: a conference symposium, an innovative StreetFest along the Bowery, and more than a hundred independent projects and public events. See Maria José Arjona at ‘About Face' today and tomorrow at noon, 215 East Houston Street, nolongerempty.org
