DEAR JOHN

Will more marriage proposals ensue?

Brooklyn singer-songwriting ingenue St. Vincent was onto something when she sang, "Marry me, John/I'll be so good to you" on the title track of her 2007 debut, Marry Me—because rumors abounded that she was singing it for her then-tourmate, John Vanderslice. We should all be so lucky, lady—but tonight at Mercury, there will be enough of the gentle rocker to go around. Appearing in support of this year's orchestrally dense chamber-pop record White Wilderness, recorded quickly with the Magik*Magik Orchestra, Vanderslice should kick up the same cheery near-naif glee of the disc's "The Piano Lesson" and more. With Damien Jurado.
