NEW MOON

Something to howl about

Groups of art-loving misfits have gathered in Tompkins Square Park to celebrate music, poetry, and performance for decades now. But they've only been doing it formally since 2003, when the HOWL! Festivalbecame an official event honoring the East Village's own Allen Ginsberg and his epic poem. This year, the festivities kick off Friday with a group reading of Howl, continue today with "Hip Hop Howl!," a mixtape showcase, and close out tomorrow with "Low Life 5: Flaming Queens," Chi Chi Valenti and Johnny Dynell's annual drag and burlesque show.
