Each summer, while celebrating the rich ranks of local leftie improvisers, the Vision Festival also drops hosannas on an esteemed veteran. This year is Peter Brotzmann's turn in the spotlight, and the wildly eruptive art that still defines the 70-year-old saxophonist's approach certainly illustrates his allegiance to full-throttle blowing. From Evan Parker and Joe McPhee to Ken Vandermark and Ingrid Laubrock, an array of his contemporaries and followers are in tow, which not only makes this week's swirl of dance, discussion, poetry, film and sonic abstraction a decidedly multi-generational affair, but the fest's most irresistible program in years.
