More About
First, relax about the name. By Naked Run, they mean bare feet or minimal footwear. Second, the event is the inspiration of author and runner Christopher McDougall, whose 2009 book Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Super Athletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen is a fascinating account of how he overcame injuriesmost of them common to runnersthrough the wisdom of the Tarahumara Indians of the Mexican Copper Canyons, known for running long distances at incredible speeds withoutinjuries. The Naked Run is hosted by the terrific Brooklyn bookstore, BookCourt, where the event kicks off with a complimentary carb-crazy brunch, talk, and book signing. Then, it's off to Prospect Park for the run. Running coach Eric Orton, who figures prominently in Born to Run, will also be there with McDougall to introduce this no-frills sport. Their goal is to make running funor at least dispel the "pain is gain" notion. Tip: Be there earlythis event has drawn as many as a thousand people in other locales.
