Cue Ariel's theme song—a bevy of sea creatures are taking to land once again for the annual pageant of tridents and pasties known as The Mermaid Parade. This year, your King Neptune is Adam Richman, host of the Travel Channel's Man v. Food, and the honorable Queen Mermaid is Cat Greenleaf, host of Talk Stoop. Yeah, we know, not exactly Lou Reed and Laurie Anderson, last year's king and queen. But given that the parade attracts a downtown, artsy crowd, there's sure to be plenty of exotic merfolk to admire. After the traditional tossing of fruit into the ocean (as a gift to the sea gods, of course), head to the New York Aquarium (602 Surf Avenue) for the Mermaid Parade Ball, where you can catch performances by burlesque stars Little Brooklyn, Julie Atlas Muz, and Nasty Canasta, as well as a synchronized-swimming show—under the sea indeed!
