Edgar Allan Poe gets the Lou Reed treatment

What becomes a legend most? How about combining two of them--Lou Reed and Edgar Allan Poe? Tonight, Reed will be signing copies of the illustrated tome The Raven, derived from his musical interpretation of Poe's tales and poems. In the book's foreword, the prodigious musician-songwriter celebrates Poe's "direct line to the planet of fear and the imp of the perverse--the desire to do that which we know is wrong," sentiments echoed by New Yorker contributor Lorenzo Mattotti's macabre illustrations. It's 35 bucks for a signed copy and an hour with Lou in the Strand's Rare Book Room--a bargain evening with the speed freak who concluded the liner notes to his infamous Metal Machine Music double-disc thusly: "My week beats your year."
