RIDE THE BIG SCREEN

Films about your favorite recreational activity. No, the other one.

Like many urban cyclists, Brendt Barbur was struck by a bus while riding the busy streets of New York. So what did he do next? Sue the city? Sue the MTA? Demand more bike lanes? Nah, he started the Bicycle Film Festival (hooray for positive thinking!). The film fest, which started in 2001 and celebrates all things cycling via music, art, and film, presents six feature films this year, including Bill Cunningham New York, about the coolest--and likely oldest--street-fashion photographer on two wheels (it screens Friday at 8:30). Bike lovers should also check out "Joyride Art Show" at Spencer Brownstone (3 Wooster Street), as well as the street fest with BMX bike demonstrations (Saturday from noon to 6 at East 2nd St. & Second Avenue), plus an after-party every night.
