SANDWICHES & SHOWALTER

Spend your lunch break with Michael Showalter and Jenny Slate

"Writing a book isn't easy," the comedian Michael Showalteradmits in his debut book Mr. Funny Pants. "I knew that if I was going to write a book, I was going to have to read one, too." He's kidding. Or is he? The author, of course, had plenty of comedy-writing experience to fall back on. His résumé includes being a co-writer of the cult classic Wet Hot American Summer, writer-director-star of the very funny romantic comedy The Baxter, and a member of the offbeat sketch-comedy troupe the State, which rose to fame on MTV in the '90s. Today, bring your lunch to Bryant Park, where the Brooklyn-based comic will share his pearls of wisdom with Jenny Slate, the lovely comedian-actress formerly of Saturday Night Live. The event is part of the "Word for Word" outdoor readings.
