Thievery Corporation+Raphael Saadiq+Dam-Funk

Three very different neo-soul acts stretch out beneath open skies. Thievery Corporation burst out in D.C. in 1995 with the U.S. version of trip hop, borrowing from jazz and bossa nova to create a relaxed club sound that belied their 18th Street Lounge label's Dischord-inspired politics. Tony! Toni! Tone!'s Raphael Saadiq hit his artistic maturity with 2008's The Way I See It; his new Stone Rollin' hangs on to that work's joy while more forcibly reminding us rock and soul share the same roots. Dam-Funk conjures the spaciest side of Prince and George Clinton for Stones Throw. With Mazter Blaster.
