With all the claims against Urban Outfitters, that the mega hipster-clothing corporation steals designs from local craftspeople, we think it's always best to purchase goods from the source. The Makers Market is just the place, with more than 50 artists, designers, and craft makers from across the country setting up shop inside the tented open-air marketplace at Socrates Sculpture Park. All the goods, carefully curated, include skillfully crafted, one-of-a-kind products and limited-edition objects, such as ceramics, turned wood bowls, glassware, motorcycles (!), knives, tableware, jewelry, baskets, furniture, lighting, textiles, surfboards, and more. The craft fair also includes a variety of workshops, a farmers' market on Saturday, and a panel discussion titled "Craft, Community, and Commerce" (on Saturday at 3). Happy shopping!
