TRUE STORIES

Stranger Than Fiction returns for the summer

Documentary film lovers, rejoice! The Stranger Than Fictionseries, which runs in the fall and spring, is now happening all summer long as well, bringing you exclusive screenings of films you won't find anywhere else. Every Tuesday, Thom Powers and Raphaela Neihausen screen world-class docs and invite the filmmakers to the IFC Center for a Q&A after the screening. Tonight's film is Chad Friedrichs's The Pruitt-Igoe Myth, a look at the implosion of the public-housing development in St. Louis that went from urban paradise to a cesspool of crime, becoming a symbol of America's failure to assist its poorest citizens. STF bonus: On June 30 at 8 p.m., catch a special Thursday night screening of Between Two Worlds, Alan Snitow and Deborah Kaufman's exploration of the community and family divisions that are redefining American Jewish identity and politics; the filmmakers will be on hand for a Q&A. Series runs through August 9.
Tue., June 28, 8 p.m., 2011
