The Carnival of Rio de Janeiro is the biggest carnival in the world, according to the Guinness Book of World Records, but we think Brooklyn will step it up this year and be a lead contender. The 44th anniversary of the West Indian American Day Carnival is a five-day celebration (starting September 1) that culminates with a ginormous parade full of colorful headpieces and lots of beautiful ladies dancing in the streets on Labor Day. Festivities, which for the most part take place at the Brooklyn Museum (200 Eastern Parkway, Brooklyn, 718-638-5000), include a slew of musical performers, a steel-band competition, dancers, stilt walkers, a fashion show, spoken word performances, and, of course, food vendors lining the streets. With such a huge lineup, Brooklyn should be a shoo-in for the throne. Parade route begins at Eastern Parkway and Schenectady Avenue to Flatbush Avenue, Brooklyn
