More About

Based on the true stories of NYPD narcotics detectives Eddie Egan and Sonny Grosso, William Friedkin's 1971 gritty cop thriller The French Connection follows detectives "Popeye" Doyle (Gene Hackman) and Buddy "Cloudy" Russo (Roy Scheider), out to stop a French drug kingpin from smuggling heroin into the U.S. The film recreates the biggest drug bust in NYC history, with plenty of car chases and gunfire to boot. Winner of five Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Editing, Best Screenplay, and Best Actor (Hackman's first Oscar), it's now screening in a fresh 35mm print at Film Forum. Keep your eye out for a caemo by the World Trade Center, which was still being completed.
