The cliché-crushing saxophonist had a health scare while gigging in Australia at the start of the summer, but he must have done some quick mending, because there’s no half-stepping when sharing lines with Polish trumpeter Stanko. Both have a yen for rounded notes that glow, as long as there’s a dash of bop zigzag stirred into the mix. That’s where the rhythm section comes in, and this week it’s a dilly.
