It's surf season in New York

It all started with Endless Summer, the 1966 film that documented Mike Hynson and Robert August's surf trip around the world, and as a result, catapulted the beach sport to another level. Forty-five years later, dozens of surf documentaries and feature films have been released with many filmmakers owing thanks to festivals such as the New York Surf Film Festival. For the past three years, the NY Surf Film Festival has kept the surf movie genre alive by screening independent short and feature films, cult classics, and world premieres from established surf filmmakers. The three-day fest also includes a surf history lecture series, Q&A sessions with filmmakers and notable surfers, and panel discussions. Seventeen movies will be in the feature film category including La Ruta Del Mojado, about a group of surfers from Guatemala City who explore the surf breaks along the path that migrants take to get to the U.S.
