This mighty drummer’s quartet has proved itself skilled at meshing rock beats and power swing without shortchanging either side of the equation. On last year's Betweenwhile they proved that a determined attack needn’t be graceless. The latest version of the band finds Jon Irabagon on reeds and new book of tunes being essayed (they’re recording again), though I’m sure the old push ‘n’ shove still has a big dab of elegance.
