More About

Although Beirut might be best known for their fixation with the sort of Eastern European folk arrangements not often heard in American pop, "East Harlem," the lead single off their new album and the band's best song in years, finds singer/songwriter/lead ukuleleist Zach Condon here in New York, pining for a girl who lives uptown—not quite the Balkan Peninsula but still far to carry on a relationship. Tonight, the band packs up their sometimes obscure instruments (when's the last time you heard a flugelhorn at a rock show?) and brings their enchanting songs, filled with youthful melancholy and cautious optimism, to midtown's Terminal 5. With Stereolab's Laetitia Sadier.
Wed., Sept. 21, 8 p.m.; Thu., Sept. 22, 8 p.m., 2011
