DUMBO gets submerged in art

If you have a Brooklyn love story you just don't want to keep inside, this year's DUMBO Arts Festivalhas the "Brooklyn Love Exchange" to help you out. At this interactive installation, your words can become a piece of embroidered art created by local artist Iviva Olenick right on the spot [at 81 Front Street on Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.]. Other artists of all kinds will gather to celebrate DUMBO's art community and create a weekend full of visual and performing art, music, and literature. This year's festival will present large outdoor exhibitions, such as Mac Premo's "The Dumpster Project," an enormous collage made out of raw materials and presented in an industrial dumpster. Or, if you need to relax, try Joanna Cheung's "Kafkaesque Hammock" [at 30 Washington Street], which depends on the audience to sit in the interconnected hammocks and become each other's counterweight.
Fri., Sept. 23, 6 p.m.; Sept. 24-25, noon, 2011
