On James Blake’s self-titled debut, the follow-up to a series of four well-received EPs, the young British dubstep producer shirks the 808s but goes heavy on the heartbreak, emoting about strained relationships with everyone from his siblings (“I Never Learnt to Share”) to the many women in his life via Kanye-ready Auto-Tune. Blake’s live shows are equally emo, filled with silences as poignant as any of the notes, loops, or drum hits out of which he constructs his songs, but they also offer enough rhythm so that after you get done wallowing in your pain, you’ll quickly be able to dance it away.
