If you don’t like what Kayo Dot are playing, just plug your ears and wait a minute: the experimental soundscape artists will go from a Goblin-like horror movie motif to a crushing metal riff to a free-jazz freak out at the drop of a dime. As such, seeing the quintet—which features unusual instrumentation like viola and synth bass and boasts three members who could pick up a clarinet at any given moment—can be either one of the most mind-blowing concert experiences around or just plain irritable, depending on the mood of the band.
